Working Principle:

Working Cycle

• Resin Beads: A tank holds tiny, insoluble beads made of synthetic organic polymers that carry a negative charge.
• Ion Swapping: Sodium ions coat the active sites of these beads.
• Softening: Hard water flows through the resin bed, and the beads catch the calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) ions, releasing sodium (Na⁺) ions into the water instead.

Regeneration Cycle

• Depletion: The resin beads eventually run out of sodium ions and become full of calcium and magnesium.
• Brine Flush: A strong saltwater (sodium chloride) solution flushes through the system to reload the resin with sodium and wash away the collected hard minerals.
